MCI Discussion Document for Strategic Development Plan 2009 - 2013

An opportunity to make an input the future of your National Governing Body

Dear colleague,

The MCI's current Strategic Development Plan (2005 - 2008) will expire at the end of 2008. Our aim is to have a new Development plan in place by late 2008, setting out our priorities from 2009 - 2013.

A strategic development group incorporating Volunteer Board Members and Staff members has been established to bring the plan to fruition and to facilitate and manage an inclusive planning process involving all members of the MCI. It is our aim that the resultant plan will be realistic and achievable.

It is our wish that the new Strategic Development Plan 2009 -2013 is owned and understood by all MCI members. In order to achieve our goal a detailed comprehensive, inclusive and proactive consultation process has been planned.

The first phase of the consultation is to circulate this discussion document to each MCI club and Individual member (via email and online). We would ask that each club consider and develop positions on the questions. We want you to take time to review and answer these questions within each programme area. There is also an area for you to carry out a SWOT Analysis of the MCI by writing down the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats. We would ask that you be concise in the information you provide so we can gain the correct information to put into the Development Plan. Additional hard copies of the discussion document can be requested from the MCI Office or soft copies can be downloaded from our web site, www.mountaineering.ie. You can also complete the form online.

In the second phase of this consultation we will hold a number of meetings to consult with members on what your vision is of your National Governing Body. Each club is invited to send two delegates to their local area meeting. The area meetings will focus on the future of the National Governing Body, its role and your role as a member in promoting mountaineering / hill-walking in Ireland. The meetings will be participative in nature. In order to make them a success we will need your active involvement. If you can’t make an area meeting, you can still submit your ideas to the MCI. Individual members are also most welcome to attend.

Please complete this questionnaire and bring it along to your local area meeting. You can fill out the questionnaire online via the link on our web site www.mountaineering.ie Copies of this document are being circulated in the post next week to Clubs.

I look forward to your active participation.

Yours Sincerely

Stuart Garland

Chief Officer
